about THE NATIONAL SHATTERING
SILENCE COALITION

fighting the tragedy of seVERE mental illness affecting 22 million americans and their loved ones

The National Shattering Silence Coalition (NSSC) is dedicated to dismantling the neglect and discrimination that impede critical public health reform.   We believe that silence is not a passive state but an active barrier to understanding and progress.

We are survivors, advocates and industry professionals; NSSC is a community of action. Our coalition advocates for critical resources for severe mental illness to be readily accessible. We focus on systemic change to be implemented through collective legislative and educational efforts.

We stand with those who have carried burdens in the dark, empowering them to step into the light and rewrite the narrative, together.

our Mission

NSSC advocates to improve the lives of those affected by severe mental illness—no-fault brain diseases—by dismantling systemic barriers to healthcare and driving change through grassroots education, collaboration, and policy reform.

our Vision

A world where every life affected by severe mental illness is saved, supported, and able to thrive with dignity.

WHAT MAKES NSSC UNIQUELY DIFFERENT?

We are built upon a distinct, three-pillar strategy that converts shared experiences into powerful, lasting change. Our success is rooted in how we organize people, resources, and policy advocacy around these core principles:
1. EDUCATIONAL AWARENESS
We believe knowledge is the first step toward empowerment. We foster open dialogue to help individuals, families, and communities navigate complex issues.
  • Comprehensive Support: We move beyond static information by creating a dynamic set of tools, including peer-to-peer discussions, professional talks, peer-led support groups, and accessible educational guides. This ensures that those who break the silence have immediate, valuable knowledge, support and hope waiting for them.
2. COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
The engine of the NSSC movement is the power of shared purpose. Our collaborative structure ensures authenticity, maximizes impact, and keeps our focus aligned with the lived experiences of those we serve.
  • Driven by Passion, Not Payroll: An All-Volunteer Coalition: As an organization powered entirely by passionate volunteers—including survivors, subject matter experts, and advocates—we maintain an authentic, grassroots connection to the communities we serve. This lean structure ensures that nearly every resource and donation is directed straight into our programs, maximizing real-world impact.
  • A Coordinated System of Care: We intentionally integrate diverse stakeholders—survivors, medical experts, legal counsel, and policymakers—to ensure that our strategies are comprehensive, trauma-informed, and highly effective in removing the barriers to care.
3. GRASSROOTS REFORM
Our mission is to translate awareness into tangible policy victories that protect our most vulnerable and ensure justice. We focus on strategic, systemic change at the legislative level.
  • The National-Local Policy Pipeline: Our policy vision is national, but our impact is locally executed. We leverage a network of dedicated State Policy Directors who mobilize our grassroots advocates to influence local legislation and state policy agendas. This strategic structure ensures that every voice contributes to a collective framework for reform, creating scalable victories across the country.

in honor of our Founder

Jeanne Gore cast the vision for achieving social, political, and healthcare changes for compassionate and equitable treatment for ourselves and our loved ones. We dedicate this site to her and the lasting effect of her gracious and generous life. United, we continue this monumental fight to ensure just and compassionate treatment of those with serious mental illness, no-fault brain disorders, and to ensure they are afforded opportunities to live their best possible lives.
