Joanne Schmitz is a dedicated advocate for families affected by severe mental illness and serves as Co-Policy Director for The National Shattering Silence Coalition in Florida. In this leadership role, she is deeply committed to advancing advocacy and education efforts, working to dismantle systemic barriers to mental health care. Joanne is passionate about empowering families and communities with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate and improve the mental health system.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and has spent over 20 years as an educator. Throughout her teaching career in Ohio, South Carolina, and Florida, Joanne has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting students and families, a dedication that continues to guide her advocacy work today.
