Chad Koyanagi has served as a community psychiatrist in Hawaii for the past 26 years, working across a wide range of settings including community emergency rooms, psychiatric hospitals, the correctional system, the state hospital, rural health clinics, and homeless outreach agencies. Most recently, he has worked in state government, continuing his commitment to improving access to care.
His most impactful work has been as Hawaii’s only street psychiatrist, meeting individuals where they are and providing care to those who are often hardest to reach. He also regularly supports families who are struggling to get their loved ones the treatment they need. Dr. Koyanagi is a strong advocate for the increased use of long-acting injectables (LAIs) and Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) as critical tools to help individuals achieve stability and access care. |
