Krista Schooley is a dedicated mental health advocate based in Soldotna, Alaska. Appointed by the Governor in August 2025, she serves on the Alaska Mental Health Board, where she contributes to statewide policy development and initiatives aimed at strengthening mental health services and support systems.
Krista is an active member of the Kenai Peninsula Suicide Coalition, working to advance suicide prevention efforts and promote mental wellness throughout the region. She also serves on the 100% Community Behavioral Health Committee, focusing on comprehensive, community-based strategies to ensure accessible behavioral health care for all Alaskans. As Alaska Policy Director for the National Shattering Silence Coalition, Krista works to advance policies that address serious mental illness (SMI), reduce stigma, and improve access to evidence-based treatment and supports. Her advocacy is deeply personal. In 2020, Krista’s adult daughter developed schizophrenia, transforming her from parent to advocate. In 2023, she became her daughter’s caregiver and guardian, further strengthening her resolve to support families navigating severe mental illness and to push for systemic reforms that ensure no family faces these challenges alone. |
