OUR FLORIDA POLICY DIRECTOR

Meet JACK WOOD

CONTACT JACK
Jack Wood is a seasoned executive and dedicated advocate serving as the Florida State Policy Director for NSSC. Based in The Villages, Jack leverages over 47 years of leadership experience in corporate and government sectors to drive systemic reform for individuals living with severe mental illness.

Before joining NSSC, Jack held prominent executive roles at Nationwide and Erie Insurance, where he spent 42 years mastering complex operations and organizational development. He later served as the Director of Economic Development for Allegany County, NY, and Board Chair/CEO of the County’s Industrial Development Agency.

Jack’s transition into advocacy is fueled by a deeply personal mission. Having navigated his son’s 37-year journey through more than 30 inpatient and outpatient hospitalizations across three states, Jack has witnessed firsthand the "systemic dysfunctionality" of the mental health industry. He is an active participant in Governor DeSantis’ State Commission for Mental Health and Substance Abuse reform and former Board Member of the LifeStream Foundation.

Jack holds degrees from Capital University and the Rochester Institute of Technology, a CLU designation from the American College, and completed executive training at MIT. He is dedicated to helping Florida families find their voice, access information, and solve the complex legal and medical hurdles inherent in SMI care.

Still here, Still fighting: featuring Jack Woods

In a space filled with noise, there are those who walk unheard and unseen, who struggle with their mental health and who slip through cracks of a system that doesn’t serve them. There are those who grow tired of walking this walk, who are exhausted by all the talk, and who lose all hope and take their lives.

In a space vacant with loss, there is a need here… to cry here, to shout out here, and to share stories for all to hear. As we look back at who we’ve lost, we look forward to who we can save … There is still hope for those still here.
