Christine Wirbick serves as the Pennsylvania State Policy Co-Chair for the National Shattering Silence Coalition, where she advocates for meaningful reform of Pennsylvania’s mental health system, particularly for individuals living with severe mental illness and anosognosia.
Motivated by personal experience navigating the system as a mother and advocate, Christine works to advance policies that promote earlier intervention, compassionate treatment, and improved outcomes for individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness. Christine is an active community leader and serves as a board member of her local Behavioral Health & Developmental Services organization. She is also a member of Lancaster County’s Mental Health America (MHA) Legislative Planning Committee and regularly attends Prison Board meetings to advocate for improved mental health care, diversion programs, and humane treatment for individuals with mental illness involved in the criminal justice system. In her advocacy work, Christine routinely meets with state legislators, county officials, behavioral health professionals, and other stakeholders to promote Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) and modernization of Pennsylvania’s Mental Health Procedures Act. She is particularly focused on advancing reforms that allow earlier intervention before individuals reach crisis points, helping reduce cycles of hospitalization, homelessness, incarceration, and emergency room boarding. Through collaboration, education, and policy advocacy, Christine is committed to building a more compassionate, accountable, and effective mental health system for Pennsylvania families. |
