research scientist on cannabis-induced psychosis

Amy Turncliff, PhD, serves as NSSC’s Research Scientist specializing in Cannabis-Induced Psychosis. In this capacity, she translates complex neurobiological research into clear, evidence-based policy frameworks to prevent serious mental health harms and advocate for public health regulations that prioritize behavioral health promotion at the local, regional, state, and federal levels.

Professionally, Amy is a neuroscientist and the Founding Director of RockFern Scientific Consulting. For more than two decades, she has served as a primary scientific consultant specializing in mental health and substance use disorders, bridging the gap between rigorous lab-bench research and public health implementation.

Amy obtained her PhD in Neurobiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed advanced post-doctoral training under Dr. Bertha Madras at Harvard Medical School.

Since 2010, she has leveraged her clinical expertise to build multi-sector coalitions and drive policy reform. Her primary focus centers on high-THC cannabis education and policy, aiming to quantify and prevent the severe psychiatric risks and psychotic onset associated with modern, high-potency cannabis products. Her work at NSSC ensures that lawmakers and families alike have access to uncompromised, ground-truth science.
