Leanna May Franklin, MA, CIHC is a dedicated mental-health advocate, clinician, and policy reform leader. She currently serves as the Washington State Policy Director for the National Shattering Silence Coalition, where she works to advance policies that improve care, access, and outcomes for individuals living with severe mental illness.
Leanna co-founded a holistic mental-health clinic, inspired by her personal journey after her son experienced a psychotic break in late adolescence and was subsequently diagnosed with a serious mental health condition. Through that experience, she witnessed firsthand how even well-resourced families can struggle to navigate fragmented systems of care — a reality that continues to inform and drive her advocacy work. Professionally, Leanna is trained as a Certified In-Home Care Clinician (CIHC) and brings extensive experience providing trauma-informed therapeutic support. Her clinical background includes work with evidence-based approaches such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, and family systems therapy. Across her clinical, advocacy, and public-education work, Leanna emphasizes compassion over judgment, connection over isolation, and treatment over punishment. She views these principles as essential to reshaping how society responds to serious brain disorders and psychiatric illness. Her work bridges direct clinical care, community-based support, and systemic policy reform — all grounded in lived experience, professional expertise, and a deep commitment to ensuring that no individual or family falls through the cracks. |
